Oise River Side: 2024 Review and Heading Towards 2030!

Our ambition: to make the Oise Valley an essential destination for river tourism.

The Oise River Side collective, dedicated to developing river tourism in the Oise Valley, recently held its 2024 action review meeting. This key gathering allowed us to assess our progress and, most importantly, look ahead with a strong ambition: to make the Oise Valley an essential destination for river tourism.

📌 2024: A Year of Structuring and Prospecting

The year 2024 was marked by a major initiative: preparing and conducting effective upstream prospecting to establish connections with river cruise operators. The goal? Showcase the potential of the Oise Valley and secure strategic meetings during the SLOWW River Tourism Meetings in Agen (January_2025)

💬 These meetings helped refine our positioning and anticipate the expectations of industry professionals while confirming the growing interest in alternative routes and unique stopovers.

🚀 2030-2032: The Seine-North Europe Canal Opportunity

The opening of the Seine-North Europe Canal, scheduled between 2030 and 2032, represents a major turning point. This new navigable route will allow the arrival of river cruise ships linking Paris to Amsterdam, creating unprecedented opportunities for the local tourism economy.

🎯 The challenges?

  • Structuring the reception of cruises in the Oise Valley.
  • Anticipating the needs of cruise companies in terms of services and infrastructure.
  • Offering a seamless and immersive experience for cruise passengers.

💡 ESCAVIVA: An Inspiring Stopover Model

During this meeting, we had the pleasure of welcoming Aurélie FERAY, who introduced us to ESCAVIVA, an exemplary initiative in successful stopovers.

🔍 Why is ESCAVIVA an inspiring model?

  • It balances the expectations of cruise companies with the interests of local destinations.
  • It integrates a touristic, logistical, and economic vision of stopovers.
  • It anticipates market developments up to 2030.

Her expertise enriched our thinking and helped identify concrete actions to optimize stopovers in the Oise Valley.

🔄 Stopovers as True Tourist and Economic Hubs

A stopover is more than just a pause; it should be a fully integrated platform, efficiently connecting:

  • Port infrastructure: reception, logistics, passenger comfort.
  • Local tourism offerings: activities, heritage, gastronomy.
  • Economic players: businesses, craftsmanship, local guides.

🌍 The challenge is to offer attractive, engaging stopovers that meet the evolving expectations of travelers.

🙌 A Big Thank You and the Next Steps to Build Together!

This meeting was a key milestone to review our progress and project towards 2030. We extend our warmest thanks to all participants, and especially to Aurélie FERAY for sharing her expertise.

🛳️ The future of river tourism in the Oise Valley starts today, together!
